After the previous Scrappy Badger and Northumberland Humbler Exams to gain more knowledge about things body and injury wise. That being the long term injury effects both mentally and physically.
As well as the trip to Barry's Bay to get in the Combermere Triple Crown ride. It was time for at least me the last race type effort in 2021.
Knowing what had been revealed during the Scrappy Badger and the Humbler this time would be the short 15km exam. As I mentioned in the Northumberland report two times at two medium distance events feeling like crap injuries wise is demoralizing. So let's see how it evolves during a shorter race at the local MTB Kingston trails on private land. And once again it would be an ITT style mtb race.
Race day dawned with the change from dry to rain and muddy conditions. So race start was delayed to allow the passing thunderstorm to pass as well as for Substance projects race director Dan to create a re-routed race course. plus the delay gave the course a wee bit of time to dry a wee bit. Due to the dropper post on the Wideangle having issues a few days before would be racing the Stylus rather then stress trying to swap seatposts from bike to bike. One of the huge negatives of dropper seat posts when they are internal for the hydraulic line. And rather reduce the chances of things going wrong because anxiety and such triggered because of rushing to try and do the swap.
After the storm cleared the area Dan sent us off in the ITT style start for three laps of the modified course. With each lap being 5km in length. The simple goals of the day was to be consistent and to find out more about the long term injury reactions.
First lap went ok. With the usual slipping in some corners with the wet conditions and nothing noticeable from the injuries from the neck down. However the PTSI wariness was still there when it came to people being to close. This is related to an incident a few weeks prior that will elaborate on in another entry.
Lap two while slightly slower was about the same as lap two. Noticed a bit of ache in back and neck It was on lap two of the course a moment that should be noted was surprised by one of the women's field who actually called out her pass . Surprised because very rarely do I see racers in mtb call out their pass clearly and do so giving each other enough space to do so safely. Again will elaborate in another entry later.
Lap three was slightly faster then lap two. And at the end of lap 3 race was done. Muddy and wet. Injury wise from the neck down while had a wee bit of aches from the neck down. Injury wise from the neck up still wasn't doing the best as definitely was hyper vigilant still about riders being to close ion certain spots.
After that got to hangout a bit and see a couple of guy's know racing in the long course version. Barry and The Wandering Warrior Michael of Riot on Racing who was conducting his own exam to find things out.
Then cheer on some I knew from the Lapdogs who raced in the long course. At one point the Scottish Canadian came to the aid of the English Attorney who decided to test his chain strength. Then the day was done and helped Dan to tear down the start area.
After the three exams had some new info about things and next thing is to look at it all and look at the overall rough conclusions.
