The day after getting the Gun Mtn Peak on Sept 10,th had the chance to ride one more trail area near Barry's Bay. A place called the Spectacle Lakes which was located west of Barry's Bay on Highway 60. This would be another new spot to see what was there.
After almost missing the turn off at Spectacle Lakes Rd drove to the end and the dirt lot. Apparently have to have good eyes as the only warning is your at the intersection. Parked and geared up to see what was here. With that in mind it was another ride with focus on exploring with no goal of riding any specific distance. And as always the protocol of hiking up any hill to steep to avoid stress on the right knee.
As I have kind of come to expect this far north not a lot of singletrack and mostly double track type trails. Really more like early to mid 1990's type mtb riding.
But it wasn't gentle. This is truly a minimal maintenance trails as it will see just enough to keep access. Well to be fair there is minimal cell service and unless am self extracting it will be a long night if things went bad. Definitely did bring the right bike that being the Chromag Stylus.
Admit that did take a side trail that didn't pan out as it was pretty overgrown and back tracked to stick to the better marked route. Still heading out on the original trail came to a small spot can look out to the lake.
Resumed the ride and came to the one bit of bush whacking had to do due to a few trees that had come down together in the same spot. And blocked the trail. So bush bashing for a bit to get round. After that fun it was back on the bike and heading for an unnamed small lake. Which after getting near it kinda wasn't much to look at. So back tracked to where I saw a connector trail that would take me further west.
Connector had one small challenge that being an unrideable creek. So after hike a bike across it was again back on the bike aiming for the trail end at Little Cub Bay which is off Bark Lake.
Finally get to the end at Little Cub Bay and while not the most cleared out of views still could see out into Little Cub Bay. And while not a bad spot could see how from May till end of August this would be bug land.
After a bit it was time to begin heading back to the Dirtbag Ute making sure had way more time to return. Since it is a new trail system and better to leave more time to be safe So headed back to the trail head at Spectacle Lake Rd. At about 75% of way back made a short detour on the East Bluff Trail that took you to the best look out of the day.
After the look out is was back to the trail head and the Dirtbag Ute as the sun was getting lower in the sky. And the end of another ride in a new trail area. A remote backcountry trail area. A place am one of of those likes to ride where very few go and it is up to you to decide how far and your route while dealing with what ever challenges the trail system offers.
