Traditionally for 19 years prior to New year's Day 2023 I would do some kind of easy ride. And to be honest the last three years has been hard.
I was flip flopping of what to do because head space wise was still kind of recovering from the "minor surgery" to have a surgical screw removed December 13th. So it kind of screwed up my head space prior to Christmas. So while was going to ride for a but New Year's Day didn't have much of a clue what was going to do. Then something popped up on my Facebook feed from Club Fat Ass out of Vancouver BC about the annual New Year's Day run tradition. Hmmm.
Since I can't run anymore due to injuries and would hurt a lot that part was out. However there is a way I could do it anyways. The Chromag Stylus. Ok, so what to do? Well while some of the snow from the December 24th snow had melted I didn't know if the K&P rail trail was clear or the snow was wet crappy snow. So the idea came that if the K&P was clear would try to ride to the new Third Crossing and go from there.
Later then planned on January 1st 2023 headed out to see what would happen with dong some form of a Fat Ass Ride. With zero expectation of it being a lot of mileage.
Won't bore anyone with the wandering ride route description as it was nothing to write the home office about. As got closer to the K&P rail trail when I saw crappy snow on part of the side trail to the K7P had a feeling that would be unrideable wet crap snow.
Took a detour via sidewalks and such to get to the Centennial Drive K&P entrance to see that it was not rideable. So the Third Crossing possibility would have to wait for the other bike and in Spring when no snow.
With that ended up simply wandering around as kind of decided on the the Half Fat Ass idea of just making do on the move. With it all ending up being an easy wandering 25km on New Years Day. Which ended up being the longest ride since major knee surgery.
After 25km was home and time to warm up. And while it was a different ride it is still to early to draw any post surgery, second procedure and recovery conclusions. It takes more than one ride to discover any new changes to how injuries will react or be triggered post surgeries. It will take a lot more time for that both physically and mentally to figure that all out.
In the end a chilly 25km out and better than sitting on the couch.
