Injury and The Self Labratory

Updated: Jul 22

One thing learned many years ago before the internet was to get good as an athlete which at the time was ski racing then tri/duathlon was to read various articles and books on training.

Well of course back then it was a bit harder without the internet. But one thing was to always keep reading and now days watching training youtube clips for example because you might spot something you can use.

The last time I did Farmers Walk as a training exercise was March 4th, 2019 the same day and a couple of hours before that was removed as a training exercise option.

Well at the 3:32 mark Brian Alsruhe mentions something from the Super Training channel and one of Ed Coan's assistance training exercises.

That is the Barbell side hold. WHAT? Wait a sec did they just say it has the same effect as a farmers walk but without the walk? WHAT? A solution?

Now am not a powerlifter nor a strongman. Nope, the genetic lottery gave me a hard no in that area. Just a dude who rides thrillcraft through the trees aka mountain bikes. But by just simply watching weightlifting type stuff on Youtube and willing to see if there could be some info to use found something that will give me a work around. Something that those who are supposed to help with solutions have not done. Now haven't tried it yet as have to wait a couple of weeks for the other pieces of equipment ordered to get in place.

Reality is that if didn't watch Youtube clips and read all the time about training a habit learned from years ago. I would be missing these things and doing the bare minimum that is doing barely maintaining. Yep....always be watching and reading training stuff. And it is all part of the process as either a coach or an athlete to be always learning things.
