About a decade ago heard about this other place called Blue Mtn. But never looked into it. And no it isn’t that ski hill somewhere near Barrie that used to offer a bike park.
This year got curious about it and looked into it more. Lots of looking at Google maps satellite view. And checking a few online sources for more info. Info was a wee bit sketchy at best but there was enough to go on.
Even the website Peakbagger.com had an entry.
So loaded the Dirtbag Ute and headed east towards Blue. Once parked and geared up it was first the ride up the unmaintained road to the actual trail.
After a bit of water hole slalom it was at the actual trail head. First thing noticed that it appeared to have been at least in some sections to have been an ATV trail.
To be honest it reminded me of the early days of MTB when I started in Whistler in the mid 1980’s. Specifically the trail up to Cheakamus Lake and a few other trails. Just without the extra climbing.
The ride in while wasn’t hard it wasn’t still not a easy spin in. It was definitely more BC XC but with out any climbs of significance.
After the ride in via the trail in it was the ride and hike-a-bike up. As this Blue Mountain is truly a high point on it’s own. There is no ski cottages and what not at the top. Nor some road.
After some climbing and hike-a-bike was at the high point of Eastern Ontario’s Blue Mountain. And while not at the true high point nearby was a conveniently placed rock seat.
And with the view enjoyed a beverage of the cold kind. Because why not enjoy the time?
After the beverage got ready to go down. mounted the chin section of the helmet and knee armour. Yes am using a Bell Super DH helmet for some trips. Because way I look at it helps further injury as well as reduce over thinking due to previous injuries.
While it was short and didn’t go fast it was still a fun bit of riding downhill on Granite rock.
Once down it was the ride back along the trail in. Where when it reconnected with the unmaintained road section and went left. To see what the rest of that road was like. As in 2020 had come in to it on the other side exploring in the Dirtbag Ute. But had turned around part way as kinda had a feeling might be bad further in. After that bit it was back down the unmaintained road that takes you in and to the Dirtbag Ute.
Back at the Ute it was rest a bit and rat some food before loading up. And head back to Kingston after mission accomplished
